Introduction

Introduction to Poetry Anthology

This is an anthology I made for my English 9 class. It has work that I had covered since the beginning of the year to now. Some of this work I have had help with from my teachers and fellow student. I decided to make it on a blog because that way I am much more organized and all my papers would be saves electronically instead of having them lying around in my backpack or in my binder. I find it a lot more organized and easy. We started a poetry unit earlier in the school year, but my teachers decided to have it done later. It happens to fall during poetry month at my school. I had a lot of papers saved from that first unit and I worked on them to make them better from what I had learned since the beginning of the year until now. I had not done much poetry until I came to this class. In my blog I have different kinds of poetry. I have 2 haikus: one is about the world cup, and another one is about winter. I have a Bull Durham Credo that I worked on from the beginning of the year and I finished it and made it a lot better. I have a family metaphor poem that I made in the beginning of the year as well. I have two pastiches. I have one pastiche that was originally from a poem called “Chicago”. My two class mates Yannis and Jae Hoon, and I, we made a pastiche about the world cup using that poem. It turned out to be very good. I have another pastiche that comes from a very well known poem called “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night”. This one I made with a class mate called Rocio, and another class mate that happens to be my brother, called Marcelo. We “pastiched” the poem and we named it “I Walk On Sand, Knowing Not Where To Go”. I also thing that this poem turned out to be a pretty good one. I also have 3 masterpieces I made myself. One is a Diamond poem I had started in class and finished at home. It is about happiness and depression. Another original masterpiece I have is a poem in two voices. I had made this poem long time ago near the beginning of the year with a fellow class mate called Marcus. He helped a lot with it and I had kept it since the beginning of the year because I thought it was pretty good. Another original masterpiece I have is a graphic poem I made myself. From the “Great Poems to Teach” page in Poets.org, I chose to transcribe, analyze, and illustrate “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night”, “This Is Just To Say”, “We Real Cool”, “I, Too, Sing America”, “Dreams”, “The Road Not Taken”, “Song”, and “One Art”.

Poem In Two Voices

Pencil Paper
I feel the determination of the user
I feel the pain sinking into my skin
*I wonder what today's story is* *I wonder what today's story is*
I'm shifting to follow the flow of the tale
I feel the pain moving along my side
*When will the Climax come?* *When will the Climax come?*
A numbness in my skin is growing
I'm running out of lead
*The eraser has come to heal the numbness* *The eraser has come to heal the numbness*
*And now the story had ended* *And now the story has ended*

Bull Durham Credo

Bull Durham Credo

I believe in the love that people share by showing how affectionate and strong the bond between them is, the warm sun on a jazzy Sunday morning. I believe in everyday’s a gift so live life to the fullest. I believe in forgiveness, the will to have a second chance. I believe in friendship, bonding, giving and receiving.

But I don’t believe in hating that person who made mistakes.

I believe in hard work, knowing that giving up makes you weaker. I believe in fighting for what you want and believe in. I believe in commitment, peace and love.

I believe in that person that pushes you, makes you fight for what you want, just because they know that that is best for you, and because they love you.

I Walk On The Sand, Knowing Not Where To Go (Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night)

By: Mau Fornerino

I walk on sand, knowing not where to go

I feel my feet digging into cool ground

Wild birds sing and dance, with water below

Waters sway slowly as winds push and grow

Morning brings waves that flow with soothing sound

I walk on sand, knowing not where to go

The sun, glimmering, ready to bestow

Fam’lies with children who on the sand pound

Wild birds sing and dance, with water below

Catamarans crash against the waves that flow

Sailors that drink rum and sing all day round

I walk on sand, knowing not where to go

The soft sand becomes cold as warmth drifts low

The sun that sets with time things doth compound

Wild birds sing and dance, with water below

Reflections of the moon bring a calm glow

Bright lights that pierce through no longer do hound

I walk on the sand, knowing knot where to go

Wild birds sing and dance, with water below

World Cup (Chicago)

Soccer consolidator of the top teams,

Rivalry Merger, Fuser of cultures,

Stimulator of Excitement, the audience’s fierce intoxicator,

Contetious, poignante, diverge,

The rainbow nation:

They tell me you are an armistice and I believe them, for I

have seen your potential which can cease bloodshed

for extensive time.

And they tell me you show tolerance to the world and I answer: Yes it,

is true I have seen blacks and whites play together

contradictory to a chessboard.

And they tell me you bring ecstasy and my reply is: On the

faces of women, men and children I have seen the prolonged

euphoric feeling you transmit.

And having answered so I turn once more to those who

have antipathy for this recreation, and I return there

scornful etiquette by saying:

Come and show me another object with such glory and such passion

it is able to blend the tears of everyday men and women.

Mixing uniforms and nations, tears and sweat it is truthfully able

to distort inadequate aspects and thoughts and show mankind

its true potential;

Honorably dismissing competitors imparting honor, and glory to the ones who won

promising a second chance to the underdogs,

Optimizing,

Consolidating,

Enchanting,

Planning,

Conferring,

Contemplating, neglecting, musing,

Under the pressure, thoughts fly by, speculations of results, cheers from the audience,

as they observe footie by footie intrude the stadium,

Shrieks from chavs, as the arena is engulfed by smoke, hooligans continue to throw

flares repudiating the brawl of the fighters,

Songs and tears, participants and onlookers, merge and blend together, for they are

what make you up, without them you are nothing,

Sobbing!

Sobbing the weak and the strong, aggressive chavs, dispassionate hooligans,

competitors, sweating, euphoric feelings, children, men,

women, bringer of peace, rivalry merger, fuser of cultures,

consolidator of top teams and the rainbow nation.

Family Metaphor Poem

Family Metaphor Poem

By: Mau Fornerino

My family is a rain forest
My father, the branches standing up above us, making him he boss and the guardian.
My mother, the grass swaying beautifully but the chilling winds.
My brother, the harsh wind sweeping across the atmosphere of the forest,
making us all surprised and fresh.
My sister, big sister, is the rare ponds of rain, for she sometimes is happy,
and sometimes she's sad.
My little sister, the small green leaves staying on the branches with my father,
or falling down to the grass to look comfort from my mother.
I'm the rain, sweeping across the forest, sometime making problems,
but sometimes just trying to improve things.

This Is Just To Say

By William Carlos Williams

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

- This poem is probably meaning to tell the reader that you can always do something that comes with consequences, even though it can be something bad. Being tempted to do something that is not right, can bring us into problems, but it doesn’t mean that you should always do the right thing. But if it’s something very serious, then it is better not to do anything wrong. It can have an allusion to Adam and Eve.

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Goodnight

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rage at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
