Short Story "Into the Wild"

I tripped on a small root tangled around one of the enormous jungle trees. I landed face first on the soft humid soil. “EW!” I yelled to the tour guide in front of me. “Be careful girl, use your senses!” he said to me in his funny Portuguese accent. I nodded and rolled my eyes, and for the first time actually looked down at the ground, earlier I was to scared to because I’d probably find a weird exotic type of insect that could potentially kill me, but instead there were just piles and piles of wet leaves losing there color and decaying. I took a deep relaxing breath, and in haled the humidity and strong healthy smell of the Amazon Jungle. I observed my surroundings and the first time I focused on every small detail, from the ant pile struggling to carry there food, to the beautiful multicolored parrot twisting its head around as we stride around to our hotel in the middle of Brazil.

Six Word Memoirs

Frozen and numb,unable to move.

Endless dreaming of my unthinkable miracles.

Writing till my hands start hurting.

Seems impossible but it feels possible.

Desperately grasping to a fading memory.

Smudged dark eye-liner covering my eyes.

Two euros, no phone, stranded alone.

Waking up with no former memory.

Somebody out there has it worse.

Learning

Yesterday evening at dinner I told my parents that I felt very happy about my classes; told them that were a lot more selective and so far a lot more intersting. Something I mentioned I had learned was the new maths techniques, and how they weren't as hard as expected. I also did use one of my SAT's quiz words in context and they very impressed. I told hat this year I'd probably learn a lot more useful things rather than the things what I learned last year.

Looking Back & Reflecting

September 12th, 2011
  • not to over exaggerate with word choice
  • keep a vivid voice throughout the witting piece

Reflection about the Memoirs
Something I feel proud about my memoir piece is that I hopefully go it to look somewhat on the "old" side. Something I wish maybe I could've done better, was try to find a bigger journal to properly fit my pieces, since it made it look a bit messy for some pieces since it didn't quite fit. I think some of my memoir pieces are very personal and I like that about them. I really wished I could've gone and dome more editing in case of some minor grammatical errors. I actually learnt a lot from this piece , for example now I actually know what a memoir is. Also I reflected at a lot of memories that I thought I'd forgotten. Also how to be creative with multiple genres!

Thank You

Thank you Maria,
For everything you've taught me. For all those unbearable laugh attacks. For all those times I'm miserable and your there for me. For everything.
Sometimes we fight, but from all those fights I have learnt. Honestly, I don't think you understand how important you are for me, without you, and I'm not over exaggerating, life wouldn't be the same. You're my biggest inspiration, never sad, always smiling with that satisfying laughter. But the thing I thank you the the most for is always being there for me, no matter where you are, I always know your there. I can feel you from a million miles away. Doesn't matter where in the world I happen to be in, I will always know that I'm coming back to see your beautiful splash of olive-saphire eyes.

So thank you for being you,

Rocio
